Due to recent expansions at the Greenbushes Lithium Mine a new Spodumene storage facility was required by Talison Lithium at Bunbury Port. The facility was located inside the Port on reclaimed land.

Settlement Reducing Piles

The reclaimed land and high stockpile loads created settlement issues for the facility. Belpile were engaged to design and construct a piling system to reduce the long term settlement of the structure. Prior to finalising the design two static load tests and further geotechnical testing were conducted to reduce uncertainty and allow an efficient solution. The final solution consisted of a grid of 460 No. 600m diameter CFA piles.  installed to depths over 15m using our Mait HR130 CFA piling rig.

Vault

In addition to the above piles a vault structure was required for the unloading of the material. This required an excavation up to 7.0m below the water table. Belpile utilised 750mm dia. Hard / Firm Secant piles for this. These were installed using our Mait HR180 CFA piling rig.
