Cockburn Gateway Stage 2 involved an extension of the existing shopping centre complex to provide additional retail tenancies as well as basement and rooftop carparking. Redesign from bottom up to top down methodology resulted in significant program and cost benefits which ultimately made the project viable. Belpile assisted in development of the top down foundation design, undertaking early works static load testing and additional geotechnical investigation. The piling scope involved installation of 270 plunge column piles with enlarged bases up to 950mm. Specialist collars/guiding systems where used to position heavy structural steel sections within the piles with optimal verticality and minimum positional misalignment. The single level basement also required installation of over 500 perimeter piles.
